I started this easy walk on a chilly winter evening in early January from the Forbes Field Outfield Wall along Roberto Clemente Drive at 40.44145°N and -79.95286°W. Turn right at the traffic lights at Schenley Drive and Roberto Clemente Drive at 40.44181°N and -79.95264°W. Doing this allows you to continue along Schenley Drive. This crosses the Schenley Bridge at 40.44149°N and -79.94950°W. I made a stop at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens located along Schenley Drive at 40.43920°N and -79.94737°W. I crossed Schenley Drive and walked up to Flagstaff Hill at 40.43990°N and -79.94620°W. This is not very elevated but just enough to afford a good view of the city of Pittsburgh. From here I continued walking along Schenley Drive to West Circuit Road at 40.43965°N and -79.94351°W. The Westinghouse Memorial is located at 40.43947°N and -79.94275°W. Continue heading along Schenley Drive through the Bob O’Connor Golf Course. You may encounter lots of White Tail Deer though Schenley Park and through the occasional flying golf ball along the Bob O’Connor Golf Course. This golf course appeared pretty active even in the winter months on relatively “warm” days. My plan was to make a left at the intersection with Schenley Drive and Forbes Avenue at 40.43774°N and -79.93295°W but Temple Sinai is just up the street and a must see. This historic structure is located at the corner of Forbes Avenue and Murdoch Street at 40.43816°N and -79.93073°W. From here I walked back along Forbes Avenue. I stopped at the “Walking to the sky cultural landmark” located on the grounds of Carnegie Mellon University at 40.44423°N and -79.94292°W. I continued heading along Forbes Avenue past the Carnegie Museum of Natural History at 40.44389°N and -79.95069°W and then along South Bellefield Avenue. I made a stop at the Heinz Memorial Chapel at 40.44551°N and -79.95152°W. I stayed on the grounds of the University of Pittsburgh and visited the campus’ Gothic skyscraper known as the “Cathedral of Learning” located at 40.44455°N and -79.95284°W. I have seen this structure from as far out of town as West Mufflin. I suspect that it’s visible from even further away. Form here I walked along Bigelow Boulevard stopping at the William Pitt Union at 40.44377°N and -79.95436°W and then crossed Fifth Avenue to get to the Allegheny County Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall at 40.44482°N and -79.95617°W. From this final stop I just walked along Fifth Avenue and then along South Bouquet Street and onto Roberto Clemente Drive to return to the starting point.
