This is an excellent and varied walk which includes stunning views, villages, river section, wooded sections and a coastal path. The trails were in perfect condition (in the height of summer) and there was little evidence they would get too muddy in other seasons.

The first section is a gentle descent from the County Gate Car Park into the valley, through the small village Brendon, and then following the East Lyn River to Watersmeet. Note, it's worth taking a little detour to Watermeet and tracing back again (not included on the map, but obvious on foot when you reach this point).

Then it's a climb up into the woods, through some open fields, where we saw an impressive stag, and then the Bristol Channel and the distant Wales come into view. From here, the walk follows the South West Coast Path, initially with excellent views of Lynmouth and Lynton. This stretch of the walk if very undulating but the biggest hill is at the end of the walk back up to the car park - ensure you've saved some energy in the tank for this one.

There is the opportunity for refreshments a third of the way around (if going clockwise) at the Blue Ball Inn.

Highly recommended.
