I've tried to complete the hike tracing the origin of the Morito River to Todaiyama Bridge several times. I've always gotten lost and ended up climbing mountains, rather than following the river.

This time, instead of starting out in Itopia, I began at Todaiyama Bridge and followed the easy, meandering trail along the river into forested canyons as the river became smaller and smaller.

This is where the trail becomes primitive and more difficult to hike. At several places the trail and the riverbed intermingle. It's not always so easy to pick up the trail again, as you can see in the posted photos. That's how I've gotten lost in the past. I've headed up trails, rather than continuing along the river.

I'm recovering from a fractured femur last September, when I crashed my Trek road bike in Mie, which resulted in a steel rod inserted in the bone and a month in the hospital. So, my hikes are a bit little slower than normal folks.

I strongly recommend that anyone planning to hike this area, around Nangokaminoyama Park, to visit the Futagoyama Nature Conservancy website, https://www.futagoyama.org/

You can download their map and get a better perspective of the hiking trails in the area.
