nabij Alpl, Styria (Austria)

The Schneealpe is a small limestone massif in the Northern Limestone Alps. Its highest point is the Windberg at 1,903 metres ASL. There's a high plateau at a height of about 1,780 metres with an Österreichisches Alpinverein (ÖAV) hut (Schneealpenhaus) and another privately owned hut (Michlbauerhütte). On the western perimeter of the plateau there's another ÖAV hut (Hinteralmhaus) as well as rather unique karst marshland (Nassköhr).

Our plan was to hike uphill from the valley and reach Schneealpenhaus in the afternoon of the first day. On the second day we left most of our luggage at the hut and hiked the plateau as well as some of its most prominent peaks (Winderg by then covered by heavy fog; Donnerwand) carrying just the light backpacks. Originally we planned to reach the western its perimeter but due to worsening weather we had to cut it short. Next day we just descended back to the valley (trekking the different route though).

All in all it's another beautiful Styrian mountains I'll be keen to return to in the future.
