One of the most beautiful walks from Champagne Castle Hotel. It begins with a steep climb to the top of Mattehorn. Once you've caught your breath at the top, follow the path (heading away from the hotel) and then a sharp right along the contour path towards Cathkin Peak and Champagne Castle.

As you walk along the Contour Path, the mountains to your left are inside of Lesotho. It's a beautiful and flat section all the way to Breakfast Stream (for a water refill), before you turn down towards The Sphinx, Crystal Falls, and then back to the Hotel

Lovely route, easier than expected but still a good workout to get up to the top. Once you reach the top it levels off and an easy stretch before heading down. I opted to start 08:00am to try avoid the heat of the day which I suspect could be blistering in the afternoon. My moving time was 2:07 and total time 3:11, stopping for lots of photos and taking in the views.

One point I think I missed the marking, but this app course corrected me before I went too far off track.

Very steep start, but then pretty flat and then down back home. Really enjoyed this hike, fantastic views

First 2-3km steep & tough on the quads if not hiking fit. App corrected our path at the first summit (appreciated). After final incline to 2000m open meadow & great scenery unfolds. Gentle decline to Breakfast Stream before steep rocky decline towards Sphinx & then relatively flat return route.
Take hats & lots of water especially in summer. Gentle reminder to watch out for snakes basking on open rocky areas. TIA (this is Africa 😉)
